Taiwanese Ambassador to India’s visit to Assam Startup: His Excellency Baushuan Ger invites exploring market opportunities in Taiwan

Taiwanese Ambassador to India His Excellency Baushuan Ger visited Assam Startup – The Nest on 11 December 2021, accompanied by Dr. Mumin Chen, Deputy Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, along with other delegates. He was welcomed by the Chief Investment Officer of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, HK Borah and the Managing Director of AIIDC, Bipul Das, along with the government officials and the Assam Startup team.

The visiting team of delegates was apprised of the Assam Startup initiative by HK Borah, who put forward an account of the journey of Assam Startup so far along with snippets of the success stories of some of the incubated startups.

While delving into the niche strengths of the startups from Assam, that mostly focusses on harnessing the natural resources and agricultural produce to create a technology infused model for meeting global demands, the discussion was further expanded to deliberating over the prospects of tea tourism in Assam.

The Managing Director of AIIDC, Bipul Das drew the delegates’ attention to the fact that unlike the previous trend of supplying raw materials to the colossal tea manufacturing brands, the startups from Assam have been able to gradually take things in stride to innovate finished tea products catering to a global market. Startups like Aromica Tea, Esah Tea and Woolah Tea have been striving relentlessly to come up with quirky tea blends and innovative tea products to capture markets beyond the country.

Speaking about the possibilities of exploring the Taiwanese market, the visiting delegates expressed interest in the herbal products and medicines from this part of the world. The fact that Taiwan imports 70% of the food and agricultural products to meet its consumption needs, His Excellency Baushuan Ger spoke about the possibilities to shift focus to the North East Indian region for import.

Further emphasising on the ‘need to meet each other for creation,’ His Excellency invited a team of officials from Assam to visit Taiwan and explore the possible market opportunities in the country. In this regard, he especially pointed out about participating in two international Expos hosted by Taiwan, viz., the Smart City Summit & Expo and the Taiwan International Tea Expo.

The Smart City Summit & Expo is the biggest IoT application exhibition in Asia that witnesses a conglomeration of smart city and IoT business exhibitors, suppliers and globally reputed industry leaders. The Taiwan International Tea Expo, on the other hand, is a coveted platform for exhibiting tea innovations from across the globe.

The visit from the Taiwanese Ambassador has come just at the right time when Assam Startup, driven by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park as the Implementing Partner, gears up to take the next leap to collaborate internationally for tapping the global opportunities that could hugely benefit the startups from Assam.
